Journal Making

I never really considered myself to be eccentric maybe slightly offbeat but tonight as I was heading to bed (yes ten o'clock on a friday night) I looked at what was in my arms and thought you batty old bird. I have brought to bed with me my laptop, my cellphone, the novel I am reading and a cup of tea in a lovely mug made by . I had to move the dog, Lucky, over so I could get into bed. But Maggie soon followed and curled up at the bottom of the bed. I am surprised Zoey did not join us but she stayed downstairs to keep Pat company. I love to unwind at the end of the day in my bed with all my "stuff". The reason for the laptop is I wanted to show off what I made today.Myjournal I took a huge leap of faith and made this coptic bound journal. I will photograph the entire book tomorrow but my stitching is still very raw. I did not use Linen bookbinding ribbon because I wanted to limit my purchases. So the binding is not as rigid as it should be. I am very proud of myself because the only material I purchased was watercolor paper. I needed paper large enough that I could fold to make signatures. As much as I wanted to I did not but Fabriano paper. I felt I needed to make one journal successfully before I dared to purchase expensive paper. I do love the wallpaper and old piano music I used for the front and back covers.

Well done Susan! A coptic bound journal is tops on my “learn how to do” list and you have inspired me with your beautiful creation! And if it makes you feel any better, as I type this, my own Zoe is curled up across my feet and my laptop is resting on my new issue of Art Journaling, which I will read after with my cup of tea in my Nicholas Moss mug from Ireland. Still feeling like a batty old bird? If you are, then move over and make room on your perch for ME!
Missing you and our eldorado family,
    hugs, gretchen

I love it! and regarding bedside “stuff”… oy vey! i just ran and counted…i have 11 books ON my nightstand, 10 UNDER it, 18 magazines, writing paper and my favorite pencil, oh – and an alarm clock. i love love love stuffing myself under the down comforter on a rainy day with a mug of spice tea and just read and doze. i read an article by an artist (forgot who) that has artist bed dates with herself…she’ll load up a tv tray with supplies, climb under the covers, and make art all day! sounds like a day well spent to me! i miss you! Linda
