Buddha Bunny

This weekend it was photo opp for Buddha the bunny. He( I think a he) is such a sweet creature but who knew a bunny loves as much attention as a dog. Why did I buy this bunny? Did I feel a need for this creature because of my love of the Velveteen Rabbit that I remember oh so many years ago?

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept.  Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand." Velveteen Rabbit

Oh, how often you are feeling the very same things this hairless, eyeless, loose in the joint, and shabby man who I am is feeling. Thank you for reflecting in my world, dear friend.

Ohmygosh – your stories of the bunny nearly killed me at Squam! I feel like I already know him (her?). Hehee!
One of my classmates brought a family artifact for a class assignment a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a worn copy of The Velveteen Rabbit. He read this very passage to us and I cried – just like my daughter and I always cried when we read it together when she was little. Such a precious story and such a precious person you are for sharing it.
    Blessings Susan,
    from your Squammie friend, Kelley
