To Life

2/5/07  Life consists in learning to live one’s own, spontaneous, freewheeling:to do this one must recognize what is one’s own – be familiar and at home with oneself. This means basically learning who one is, and learning what one has to offer to the contemporary world, and then learning how to make that offering valid. Thomas Merton
This morning I stumbled upon the word acedia(accedie). " Which vaguely means a loss of stamina and resolve. Acedia  has implications for modern attitudes toward culture, conformity, and contentment.  P1010979
While I was contemplating Merton’s passage and acedia I ventured outside on another gray Februrary day to take some photos. As I looked around the yard and noticed there is allot of over due clean up that must be done. P1010982
Leaves are every where. They had not all fallen when we got our first snow. Then there was not time to rake. I felt like this angel statue. Please make all the leaves go away and bring me sunshine and birds. Then my eyes fell upon this garden plaque P1010980_3
and I had an aha moment. I realized I was finally familiar and at home with myself. Whether or not I was experiencing or had experienced acedia  was irrelevant. I became conscious of the fact it was time to stop scrutinizing every detail of my life just live. To live one’s own, spontaneous, freewheeling. I love being outside working in my gardens. I love working in my studio and creating pieces of art. I am blessed to the have the opportunity to partake in both these activities on a daily basis. While I am still at home raising my four children I am going to embrace these activities I love. I am going to offer them to the contemporary world and then learn how to make that offering valid.

    Beautifully said Susan, just beautiful.
Do you know how many people will never get to this place that you are?
That everything you offer is a gift and a love offering unto the universe.
Yes dear friend, no scrutinizing necessary.
Just breathe, embrace everything that makes you so uniquely YOU, and love and live…
the rest will all just fall into place in it’s perfect time.
I applaud your epiphany moment today… and every day.
